Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Mr. Takeshi Sekiya, Vice Minister for Global Environment Issues of the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan.

The Executive Director expressed her appreciation for the long-standing collaboration between the MOE and UN-Habitat, including through the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP), and exchanged views on future cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and towards COP31.

Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Ms. Ayuko KATO, State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Mr. Hideyuki Shiomi, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Tourism.

The Executive Director expressed her appreciation for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)’s long-standing support and partnership with UN-Habitat. They also exchanged views on advancing sustainable urban development through the implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) and addressing housing challenges, a key priority under UN-Habitat’s Strategic Plan 2026-2029. They also discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration toward GREEN EXPO 2027, in which UN-Habitat will participate.

Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Mr. Yasutaka Nakasone, State Minister for Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan. The Executive Director expressed her appreciation for the MOFA’ long-standing support for UN-Habitat’s work and exchanged views on strengthening cooperation to advance sustainable urban development.

UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach met with members of the Japan Parliamentarians on Habitat to discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Japan and UN-Habitat in addressing housing and urban development challenges.

The engagement reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary cooperation in mobilizing political support, strengthening partnerships and advancing the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and SDG11 on sustainable cities and communities.

Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Ms. Tetsuko UEDA, Vice Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture. She expressed gratitude for the continued support to UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific over the past years and exchanged views the future direction of the partnership, including efforts to promote sustainable urban development and regional cooperation.

Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Mr. Michiaki URIU Chairperson of the Cooperating Committee. She expressed gratitude to him and all member companies for their support thus far and asked them to continue their support and strengthen cooperation in the future, emphasizing the importance of private sector initiative in sustainable urban development.

Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, met with Mr. Soichiro Takashima, Mayor of Fukuoka and the Co-Organizer of the Asian-Pacific City Summit.

She expressed gratitude for Mayor’s leadership and support over his 16-year tenure and convey appreciation for his contribution to strengthening the partnership between Fukuoka City and UN-Habitat.

This marks Ms. Rossbach’s second visit to Fukuoka, following the one last year.

During her keynote address at the 15th Asian-Pacific City Summit, co-hosted by Fukuoka City and UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach highlighted the importance of localization, partnerships and co-creation in advancing adequate housing for all and building more inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities.

UN-Habitat and the City Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) co-hosted the session, “Advancing Inclusive Cities: Improving Living Conditions in Informal Settlements and Underserved Communities,” at the 15th Asian-Pacific City Summit.

Representatives from MLIT, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Nepal, and Hat Yai City in Thailand shared their experiences and insights on efforts to improve housing conditions, expand access to basic services, and promote participatory urban development, while discussing opportunities and challenges in advancing inclusive cities that leave no one behind.

At the 15th Asian-Pacific City Summit in Fukuoka, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach held discussions with Hon. Makoto Oniki, Chair of the Japan Parliamentarians on Habitat and Member of the House of Representatives representing Fukuoka.
