Ms. Hoshino, Special Advisor to RD, and Ms. Ihoroi, Assistant Programme Management Officer, participated in the career event “Aim for a Career at the UN!”, organized by the Citizens Net for UN-Habitat Fukuoka.

Following opening remarks by Ms. Hoshino, Ms. Ihoroi gave a keynote speech on careers with UN-Habitat. The event brought together many high school and university students, as well as local residents, who are interested in international careers. Participants also asked many questions about education and career paths. We hope that our activities at UN-Habitat ROAP will help make the UN feel a little closer and inspire young people to pursue opportunities to work on the international stage!

UN-Habitat co-organized the UNCCD COP17 Mayors’ Forum in Ulaanbaatar together with the City of Ulaanbaatar, UNCCD, the Local2030 Coalition, ICLEI and other partners.

The Forum brought together local and regional leaders and partners to exchange experiences and solutions on urban resilience, land restoration, sustainable land and water management, and sustainable urban development. UN-Habitat actively contributed to the Forum’s discussions, highlighting the importance of strengthening local leadership, multilevel governance and partnerships, and translating global commitments into meaningful local action.

Ms. Taguchi, Coordinating Officer, conducted a lecture and an SDGs workshop for children at an after-school childcare club.

During the lecture, she introduced the work of UN-Habitat and initiatives to achieve the SDGs. This was followed by a workshop on village reconstruction and community planning, where children worked in groups to discuss their ideas and give presentations. The programme provided an opportunity for children to learn the importance of critical thinking, teamwork and communication.

We hope this experience will inspire children to take a greater interest in international cooperation. Our sincere thanks to all the children who participated and to the staff for their support and cooperation.

Ms. Hoshino participated as a speaker in the “High School Students × Gender Equality Workshop”—a summer program organized by the Fukuoka Prefectural Center for Gender Equality (“Asubaru”)—where she engaged in an interview-style discussion with groups of high school students on the topic of “Disaster Prevention, Response, and Gender Issues.”

Addressing students from schools across the prefecture, she presented various case studies illustrating the gender-related challenges that arise during post-disaster recovery in developing countries—as well as the initiatives and considerations aimed at addressing them—based on the work of UN-Habitat.
