Ms. Ishigaki visited Ong Ang Canal and Chao Phraya Sky Park, alongside the UN-Habitat Bangkok Programme team. 

The Klong Ong Ang Renovation Project was awarded the 2020 Asian Townscape Award which UN-Habitat ROAP organizes with the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Centre, Asian Habitat Society, and Asia Townscape Design Society.

Ms. Ishigaki met with the Resident Coordinator in Thailand, Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey to discuss UN-Habitat’s activities in Thailand. Topics included housing, climate change, and SDG Localization, reinforcing the commitment to urban sustainability and resilience. 

Ms. Ishigaki met with the Resident Coordinator in China, Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee, and discussed to explore future areas of collaboration in urban development. Strengthening partnerships is key to advancing sustainable cities in the region!

Ms. Ishigaki met with Ms. Tomoko Azuma, Deputy Representative of the Fukuoka Prefecture Office in Bangkok, to discuss about UN-Habitat activities in the region and explore opportunities of possible collaboration in Thailand.

Ms. Ishigaki co-chaired the Networking Group on Human Mobility and Urbanization (NG HMU) alongside Mr. Iori Kato, Regional Director of IOM ROAP. She emphasized the importance of collaboration among UN agencies in this field.

A productive discussion with Mr. Suzuki Kazuya, the Chief Representative of JICA Thailand Office, focused on potential cooperation during the upcoming 81st UNESCAP Commission Session. Exploring new synergies for urban resilience and sustainable development in the region!

Ms. Ishigaki had a bilateral meeting with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary, ESCAP, and discussed to enhance its collaboration with UN-Habitat on urban issues in Asia and the Pacific Region.

Ms. Ishigaki visited the Ministry of the Social Development and Human Security and had a discussion with Mr. Anukul Piedkaew, the Permanent Secretary to strengthen its collaboration with UN-Habitat including Housing for All initiative and advanced SDG Localization in Thailand.

Ms. Ishigaki participated in the Opening Session of the 12th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), a key annual platform that brings together governments, stakeholders, and experts to review regional progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN-Habitat co-organized the side event “Maximizing Local Impact: SDG Localization and Inclusive Action in Southeast Asia,” in collaboration with local and international partners.

The discussion emphasized the role of Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) as a critical tool for governments to align policies with the SDGs and accelerate local action.

Ms. Ishigaki visited the SDG Joint Fund exhibition booth UN-Habitat organized in partnership with UNDP Thailand and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Thailand. 

Across the Asia-Pacific region, UN-Habitat is actively supporting cities in Nepal, the Philippines, and Thailand in developing their VLRs.

Ms. Ishigaki met with the Resident Coordinator in Indonesia, Ms. Gita Sabharwal, to discuss about current engagements and collaborations between UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Indonesia and UN-Habitat.

Ms. Ishigaki met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Fiji, Mr. Dirk Wagener, to discuss on strengthening UN-Habitat’s presence in the Pacific. 

Saturday, 22 February 2025

Ms. Ishigaki participated in the 5th One Health International Forum in Fukuoka. During the Forum, Dr. John de Jong, President of the World Veterinary Association, and other experts delivered keynote speeches on the One Health approach. 

The event provided a valuable opportunity to gain insights into One Health initiatives and deepen understanding of its importance in addressing global challenges. ROAP would like to explore how we can collaborate with and contribute to this initiative.

Ms. Ishigaki visited Mr. Ko Goto, Director General of JICA Kyushu Center and exchanged opinions on future collaboration with ROAP.

Ms. Ishigaki visited Mr. Kenichi Katayama, Deputy Mayor, City of Kitakyushu.

She shared an overview of UN-Habitat’s recent activities and exchanged opinions on engagement of Kyushu stakeholders.

 Ms. Ishigaki welcomed Ms. Junko Mori, Women’s Peace Committee Chairperson of Soka Gakkai (right in the photo) and Ms. Saki Kojima, Women’s Peace Committee Youth Conference Vice Chairperson of Fukuoka, Soka Gakkai (left in the photo). We shared an overview of UN-Habitat’s recent activities and exchanged views on ROAP’s plans for the year ahead.

Ms. Ishigaki visited the Habitat for Humanity Japan to deepen mutual understanding of organization’s activities and exchange views for future collaboration.

Ms. Kazuko Ishigaki, UN-Habitat Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to express gratitude to Governor Ms.Yuriko Koike’s participation in the 12th World Urban Forum held in Cairo, Egypt, in November 2024. She also exchanged views on future collaboration with ROAP.
