Ms. Ishigaki had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Chun Kyoo Park, Head of UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD). During the meeting, both celebrated the successful collaboration of this year’s International Mayors Forum and agreed to collaborate toward the next year’s Forum in Ecuador. As organizations that both have offices in Asia and the Pacific region, she also discussed potential areas of cooperation.

Ms. Ishigaki had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Khaltar Luvsan, Mayor of Karakorum City, Mongolia. During the meeting, Mayor Luvsan introduced a new urban development plan centered on the historic city of Karakorum. Ms. Ishigaki discussed the potential for collaboration utilizing UN-Habitat’s expertise in areas such as climate-resilient urban sustainable development, the creation and use of public spaces, and transportation infrastructure.

Both parties agreed to continued cooperation, and Ms. Ishigaki invited Mayor Luvsan to participate in the 13th World Urban Forum (#WUF13) to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May 2026.

Ms. Ishigaki had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs. During the meeting, both sides recognized the critical role of local governments in advancing the SDGs Agenda toward 2030 and discussed the potential opportunities for further collaboration between UN DESA and UN-Habitat in Asia and the Pacific region.

UN-Habitat co-hosted the International Mayors Forum in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and Toyota City. During the forum, Regional Director Ms. Ishigaki organized a session under the theme “Safe and Resilient Housing, Cities, and Communities” to chart a path toward the upcoming World Urban Forum (#WUF13) scheduled for May next year in Baku, Azerbaijan. In this session, she engaged in discussions on housing and urban issues with mayors from cities across Asia and Africa.
