Overview
The 16th Environmental Technology Expert Group Meeting was held on 17 October 2025 in Nagoya City under the theme “Cities and Resilience.” The conference was co-organized with the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and supported by the City of Nagoya.
This year, the conference was organized consecutively with the 2025 International Mayors Forum, which was held from 14 to 16 October and hosted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), with co-organization by UN-Habitat and Toyota City. A total of 61 participants attended the meeting in person, including 25 participants from 15 cities in 10 countries overseas (including six mayors and six deputy mayors).
During the meeting, a keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Toshio Koike, Executive Director of the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), followed by a panel discussion on “How Japan’s Disaster Risk Reduction Technologies and Knowledge Can Contribute to Other Asian Countries.” Participants then engaged in a World Café-style discussion, where representatives from 12 cities across Asia and the Pacific shared the challenges and needs they face related to climate change and disasters. In addition, nine Japanese companies presented technologies that contribute to enhancing urban resilience, including data utilization and infrastructure solutions, creating opportunities for new partnerships and collaboration.
