The 21st World Habitat Day Children’s Drawing Contest

1. Theme

This is How I Transform Our City for Better Urban Future. 

2. Specifications


a. Content:

You often learn global issues such as “Disaster”, “Conflict”, “Poverty” or “Climate Change” in TV and/or newspaper. What do you propose to change in order to make your city/town better so that you can live safely and happily?

Let’s think what we can do for the future of our cities and towns. Transforming cities in better ways revitalize them with more opportunities. How will YOU change your City? Express your idea freely on the drawing.


b. Qualification: 4th through 6th grade pupils of public/private schools (mainly in Asia and the Pacific)

c. Deadline for Submission:      Friday, 16 September 2022

We would appreciate it if you submit the drawings by school as a unit.


If it is impossible for you to send your drawing by post due to COVID-19, please send ① digital image of your drawing (by digital camera, smartphone, scanner), ② your information and an introduction paragraph (see Attachments) to: habitat.fukuoka@un.org. Total image size should be between 1MB and 10MB.

f. Other Remarks

① Make sure to paste a label on the back of the drawing with your name, grade and the name of the school/city/town/village. (Use Attachment 1)

② Make a separate name list by school. (Use Attachment 2)

③ Staple introduction paragraphs (Use Attachment 3) together with the name list (Attachment 2).

④ We do not return the original drawings to applicants. ⑤ Submitted drawings will belong to UN-HABITAT ROAP – Fukuoka and may be used for its promotional materials.

Note:  Please make sure that Application Form is TYPED in BLOCK LETTERS.  Any submission with illegible handwriting will not be considered for the contest.

3. Judging

(1) First Judging

The first judging will take place at UN-Habitat ROAP – Fukuoka and a certain number of drawings will be selected as excellent drawings. 

(2) Final Judging

Awards will be determined from the selected drawings by members of the Judging Committee.

4. Awards

The final judging will determine the following awards:

– UN-Habitat ROAP Award (Gold, Silver, and Bronze)

– Children’s Future Award

– Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention in FUKUOKA Award

– Special Award

5. Exhibition

The awarded drawings will be introduced / exhibited on UN-Habitat ROAP- Fukuoka website.

6. Habitat Calendar

Using the selected drawings, the Organisers will produce the 2023 Habitat Original Calendar which is downloadable from UN-Habitat ROAP – Fukuoka website.  Also, we will initiate a donation campaign in Japan using the Calendar.  Donation will be used to support “Water for Life” projects of UN-Habitat in Asia and the Pacific.
